「The Revolution Will Not Be Televised」で知られるGil Scott-Heronが、長年の音楽的パートナーBrian Jacksonと制作した1980年のアルバム『1980』からの「Willing」。ジャズ・ファンクを基盤にしながらディスコやダンス、ニューウェイヴの要素を取り入れた作品で、Gilの低くざらついたヴォーカルと滑らかに流れるファンク・グルーヴが絶妙に絡み合う。二人による最後の共同フル・アルバムとなった『1980』は、Brian JacksonのアレンジとMalcolm Cecilのプロダクションによって、従来のサウンドからより洗練された方向へ進んだ作品。「Willing」はその変化を象徴する一曲で、力強さを残しながら軽快に踊れるグルーヴが魅力。A面にLP Version、B面にはDJプレイを意識した「Dope Jams Extended Version」を収録。

The original LP marked the final full-length from the duo before parting ways, catching them at a point where jazz-funk looseness gave way to sleeker, post-disco arrangements. This track slips between the two modes with ease - laidback but punchy, slick but full of bite.
