かつてモンスターヒット「I Want You In My Soul」を放った実力派が、数々のカルトアーティストを輩出してきた名門レーベルの復活に合わせて放つ、ファンクからディープ・ハウスまでを網羅したダンスフロア向けヴァイナル。
2002年にSchmoov!によって立ち上げられ、Crazy PのRon BasejamやHot Toddy、Vincenzo、Rhythm Plate、Spirit Catcherといったカルト的人気アーティストの作品を世に送り出してきたWinding Road Records。活動休止を経て始動するこの名門レーベルが再びタッグを組んだのは、かつて同レーベルからモンスターヒット「I Want You In My Soul」を送り出したLovebirdsだ。
本作「They Call Me EP」は、ダンスフロアを揺らす多彩なグルーヴが詰まった一枚である。
タイトル曲「They Call Me」は、Moodymannを連想させるファンク主体のジャムだ。ブルース調のヴォーカルとホーンが響き、うねる鍵盤と素晴らしいライヴ・ベース、そしてソリッドなビートが融合したダンスフロア仕様の仕上がりを見せる。
続く「Smooth & Fatfree」は、ドリーミーなダウンテンポ・グルーヴァー。太くうねるベースラインに、ベルリンの空気感を纏ったスムーズな鍵盤の音色が絡み合う、アフターパーティーに最適なトラックだ。
そして「Bali Birds」は、しなやかなディープ・ハウス・グルーヴを展開。メロウなコードやストリングスの間で小気味よく鳴るベースラインが、Super Discountのヴァイブスを彷彿とさせる。

PDD are excited to welcome the return of the legendary Winding Road Records. Originally launched in 2002 by Schmoov! and home to releases by cult artists such as Ron Basejam, Hot Toddy, both of Crazy P fame as well Vincenzo, Rhythm Plate, Spirit Catcher and not to mention Lovebirds and their monster hit, I Want You In My Soul. After a hiatus, the label is back with a bang and teaming up once again with Lovebirds for another classic EP.
‘They Call Me’ is a funk-fuelled jam with bluesy vocals and horns, all sounding kinda Moodymann. Rolling keys, incredible live bass, and solid beats. Dancefloor winner.
‘Smooth & Fatfree’ is a dreamy downtempo groover with the fattest, squelchiest bass in town, and the smoothest keys this side of Berlin. Afterparty gold.
Finally ‘Bali Birds’, a slinky deep house groove with a twanging bassline nestling between mellow chords and strings, reminiscent of Super Discount vibes.
