日本のアンビエントを、片面ごとにじっくり味わうための12インチ。
A面には Shuichiro Nakazawa が Modern Living 名義で制作した作品を収録。1990年代から環境音楽や電子音楽を軸に活動してきた彼らしい、Minimalで構築的なサウンドが特徴で、「Art Form 2」コンピレーションに初出後、「Virtual Dreams」にも選ばれた楽曲となる。長く引き伸ばされたシンセ音が静かに層を成し、展開を抑えながらも音の配置によって奥行きを生み出す構成。片面フル尺での収録により、途中で遮られることなく、音の流れそのものに身を委ねられる。
B面は Virgo 名義の Yasutaka Sato による「System For Zodiac」。実験性と音響設計を重視した作品を残してきた彼の代表的な一曲で、極少数のみ制作された「Landform Code」CDに収録されていた音源だ。電子音の質感や和音の移ろいが明確で、静かな佇まいの中に緻密な設計が感じ取れる。今回が初のヴァイナル収録となり、A面とは異なる角度から日本のアンビエントの深さを伝えている。

Ambient Classics From Japan on Mukatsuku features two lush filled classics from the label Form@ Record label from the land of the rising sun....First up, Shuichiro Nakazawa under the guise of Modern Living from 1998 - initially taken from the Art Form 2 compilation although it also popped up on Music From Memory's excellent Virtual Dreams collection - now gets a whole side loud playing time on vinyl to itself. On the flipside comes Virgo aka Yasutaka Sato with his gorgeous 'System For Zodiac piece, taken from the Landform Code CD, of which only 30 copies were ever made and is the first time ever on vinyl.
