ディスコをルーツにメキシコ・シティを拠点に活動するDJ／プロデューサー、Monsieur Van Prattが手がけた「Illegal Disco」シリーズの第4弾、12インチ『Illegal Disco 004』が登場。ジャパニーズ・ディスコのエッセンスを遊び心を込めて蘇らせた3トラックに、ヴィンテージな温度感と時代を超えた普遍性が見事に共鳴する作品だ。
A面「Message Of Love」は、力強くも軽やかなドラム躍動とムーディなメロディを融合させた、胸にグッと響くグルーヴ。B面の「Shyness」は滑らかで夢見るようなサウンドを持ち、ソウルの深みを感じさせるエッジを帯びている。「Valuable Love」はメロディアスな高揚感と前向きなエネルギーがあふれ、聴くだけで気持ちが持ち上がるような仕上がりだ。
Monsieur Van Prattは70年代ディスコや80年代ファンク、ジャズに影響を受けたサウンドを自作に昇華し、Nu-Discoの文脈で他に類のない表現を追求する人物。その経験とセンスが、このEPには隅々まで行き渡っている。
この盤からは、ただノスタルジーに浸るだけではなく、ディスコの洗練と最新のカラーがクロスする魅力的な音像が立ち上がってくる。クラブで爆発させてもよし、部屋のBGMにしても心を解きほぐしてくれる一枚。ディスコのダンスフロア感と洗練された円熟を求める人に、ぜひチェックしてほしい。

Monsieur Van Pratt is the venerated rare groove maestro who invites us back into that world with a new EP of sizzling disco that comes steeped in "the essence of Japanese disco." Although there is a vintage and authentic feel to these cuts, the contemporary edge means they have a more universal appeal, starting with 'Message Of Love' with its driving drums and moody melodies. 'Shyness' is a smooth and dreamy sound that brings a lovely soulful edge and 'Valuable Love' that rises up with more energy and melodic positivity. This is more dynamite from the one and only Pratt.
