20/20 Vision continues to stride into 2026 with a standout new EP from Jim Baron—better known to dance music devotees as Ron Basejam. A founding member of the acclaimed UK electronic collective Crazy P, Baron has long been celebrated for his warm, melodic fusion of disco, house, funk, and soul. His solo output as Ron Basejam has carved out a beloved corner of the underground, where analogue sonics meet heartfelt musicality, and groove-led production fuse into something timeless and deeply personal every time.

‘Is It Daylight?’ brings together his signature sonics with live instrumentation and soul-soaked vocals, expanding on the Balearic-tinged, harmony-rich sound that has defined his work across celebrated labels such as Brownswood, Futureboogie, Wolf Music, Razor-N-Tape, and previously on 20/20 Vision. The EP reflects both on the sophistication and musicality of Baron’s long-spanning career with Crazy P, as well as the introspective, groove-centric sounds the world knows and loves as Ron Basejam.

A1 ‘Maynard’ kicks off the EP with a deep, bluesy swing – a perfect mood-setting track that fuses moogy bass pulses with live piano chord rhythms, Hammond organ swells, brass flares and a smooth-sultry vocal at it’s centre. ‘Bighorn’ follows with an authentic Detroit feel; uniting filtered sample chops with an ever-ascending groove from the outset.

On the flip side, title track ‘Is It Daylight?’ continues this sonic footprint with swirling brass, piano hooks and expressive synth work that wanders around the central vocal lead. ‘The 8 bit Slowdown’ closes out the record with an even deeper exploration of live instrumentation, immersive improvisations and delicately layered polyrhythms – cementing that Ron Basejam’s latest EP is a vibrant statement from an artist who remains as inventive, soulful, and essential as ever.
