Description
Japanese crossover/fusion is hot again! As an evolution of, or spin-off from, the global city pop boom, Japanese fusion has rapidly resurfaced since around last year.
The debut album by Carioca, one of Japan's leading Brazilian fusion units active in the 70s and 80s, released in 1978.
The group formed around Kiyoshi Hasegawa's backing band and adopted the name "Samba Carioca" for this debut album.
True to its name, the group delivered samba and bossa nova with a resort flair, which was quite rare at the time, and produced specialists such as drummer Antonio Ishida and guitarist Masami Sato.
This highly popular first album features a diverse range of guest artists, including Masayoshi Nakatomo, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Shuichi Ponta Murakami, and Shigeru Mukai.
