フランス・ヴェルサイユ出身のエレクトロ・デュオ、Air。彼らの映画 The Virgin Suicides（監督：Sofia Coppola）のために制作されたサウンドトラック・アルバムが、“Redux”として新たにヴァイナル仕様で登場。今回のヴァージョンではオリジナル・テープからの全アナログ・ミックスを採用し、もともと冷たくメタリックだった音像を“もっと温かく、もっと有機的に”再構築していると、Air自身が語っている。
アルバムは、夢幻的なシンセ・コード、幽玄なメロディ、ゆったりとしたビートが織りなす音の建築物のよう。タイトル曲「Playground Love」をはじめとする各トラックが、映画が描く青春の儚さや郊外の空気感、記憶と静けさのあいだを音で表現している。
ヴァイナルで聴くことで、音の“空間”がより明確に感じられる。シンセの余韻、ベースの振動、そして静寂と響きの対比が、まるで音がゆっくりと溶けていくような感覚を与える。チルアウトやアンビエント的な側面だけでなく、構築的なエレクトロニカとしての深さも併せもち、リスニングでもリラックスでもクラシック・フォーマットとして手元に置きたくなる一枚。

The Virgin Suicides now available on 1LP Black vinyl, AIR's second album and the evocative soundtrack to Sofia Coppola’s directorial debut is reissued as The Virgin Suicides Redux for its 25th anniversary. A brand-new analogic mix of the original album produced by ‘Alf’ Briat and Air in April 2025, deepens and updates the haunting and beautiful soundscapes that have only grown in stature over the years, much like the cult classic film it accompanies.
