アメリカ・ニューヨーク出身のファンク／ソウル／ディスコ・バンド、Fatback Band の楽曲が、Acid Jazzの「Spring Revisited」シリーズの一環として特別に蘇る。この12インチ『Snake / Chillin' Out』には、1978年のアルバム Fired Up ’n Kickin’ からの名曲「Snake」を、ブルックリンの名プロデューサー Joaquin “Joe” Claussell が “Sacred Rhythm Version” として重厚かつ精神性のあるリズムに再構築。裏面には Kon による「Chillin’ Out (Cool Out Remix)」を収録し、今年デジタルで好評だったサウンドが遂にヴァイナルでも登場。
Fatback Band は1970年代からファンクやディスコをけん引してきたレジェンドで、「King Tim III (Personality Jock)」は初期ヒップホップの代表的シングルとして知られる。Claussell によって再現された「Snake」は、深いグルーヴと誠実さが共鳴し、ソウル・ファンク好きをうならせる仕上がりだ。
Kon による「Chillin’ Out」のリミックスは、クールな気配と洗練された遊び心を漂わせながら、ディスコの軽やかさと都会的なスムースさを兼ね備えたアレンジ。どちらも力強いビートを携え、クラブでもベッドルームでも、音に身を任せたくなる世界を描き出している。
ジャケットもシリーズの前作同様に70年代後期にニューヨークのDJプールへ届けられたようなノスタルジックで美しいデザインで、コレクション欲も刺激する。レコード棚にもプレイリストにも映える一枚として強く推薦したい。

been a favourite among soul-funk heads. Now, it’s in the hands of one of Brooklyn’s finest –
Joaquin ‘Joe’ Claussell – who gives it the full treatment. It’s backed with Kon’s ‘Cool Out Remix’
of ‘Chillin’ Out’, which was met with a great response when released as a digital single earlier
this year, and rightly sees a side of wax.
The limited-edition 12” vinyl continues the beautiful design theme of the series, looking as if it
was just sent to a New York DJ pool at the end of the ‘70s…
