Convergence is the definitive Random Factor track, showcasing Carl Finlow at his very best as sole writer, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. There are no samples in sight and every note and word has been meticulously produced and placed perfectly in the mix.
Originally released as VIS99, Convergence went on to have a life of its own over two decades since its inception in 2005. Plucked from the aether by Craig Richards, Convergence became a fabric classic, dropped at unique points in the proceedings at the legendary club when Richards wanted to create a moment of magic, something that would stand out from the four to the floor beats and leave people in a place beauty. Something witnessed at Houghton Festival first hand when a young lady came up to shake Carl’s hand at the end of Random Factor’s Live set in the forest telling Carl, “You made me cry!” And that perfectly sums Convergence up in a nutshell.
The original release also featured stellar remixes by one of our all-time favourite producers John Tejada who turned in both vocal and dub mixes that take the electro pop original into the land of glitch with expertly produced stuttered vocal cuts and raspy synths punctuated by tight drums designed to rock great sound systems.
The only differences on this pressing are brand new bespoke artwork created by Carl himself (are there no limits to his skills!) and a re-mastered original version that subtly improves the kick drum and backing vocals leaving Finlow finally happy that his masterpiece sounds exactly as he imagined. And the re-mastered original version will benefit from having it’s own side for the first time ensuring a loud cut for the best possible vinyl playback.
Convergence is a true masterpiece from a master of electronic arts and a record that should be part of any music lover’s collection as a moment in time.
