Jiro Inagaki & Soul Media - Funky Stuff [Pure Vinyl / 180g Heavyweight Vinyl]

As Inagaki himself has said, “I played black funk,” his musicality leaped into another dimension by fusing the explosive power of the jazz-rock he had cultivated up to that point with the tenacity and elasticity of black music. Combined with the masterful arrangements of Hiroki Suzuki, the groove was polished to a shine, becoming richer and glowing with an eerie luster. Every track is a highlight, including “Painted Paradise,” brimming with dynamism and a sense of speed; “Breeze,” where funkiness and mellowness coexist; and a cover of Cool & the Geng’s “Funky Stuff,” with its low center of gravity and sharp bite. Today, it is a definitive masterpiece in constant demand from around the world.
