Jiro Inagaki & Soul Media - In The Groove [Pure Vinyl / 180g Weight Vinyl]

Since their formation in 1969, Soul Media had championed the fusion of jazz and rock. This direction took its next step with this 1973 recording, "In the Groove". Bringing jazz's sharpness to the forefront, they blended in rock to sharpen the edge and injected funk to imbue the music with power and elasticity. They created a tough yet sophisticated, relentlessly "cool" sound that cannot be fully categorized by existing genres such as jazz-rock, jazz-funk, or fusion. This album has also been described as a response to The Crusaders, whom Jiro Inagaki was paying close attention to at the time. The aim was spot on. With this album, Soul Media acquired a "sophisticated black feeling" and headed toward their ultimate destination, "Funky Stuff".
