Description

Tommy Young is a singer with a large scale and powerful voice that is strongly influenced by Alisa Franklin. The first official LP reissue of the only album released in 1973! Includes the popular free soul medium-up “Hit And Run Lover”!

Tommy Young, a singer from Dallas, Texas, released his only album in 1973 on Soul Power, a label started by Bobby Patterson under the prestigious Jewell label in Shreveport, Louisiana, produced by Patterson. Her lively pop medium ``Hit And Run Lover'' from this album became popular in the free soul scene in the 1990s, but her true charm, with roots in gospel music, lies in the influence of Alisa Franklin. It is in the deep singing that strongly oozes. Expressive singing in ballads such as the title song and OV Wright's famous song "That's How Strong My Love Is," also sung by Candy Staton, medium songs with a southern flavor, and new soul-like funky numbers that reflect the times. Above all, the punchy singing is amazing. It can be said to be one of the most representative pieces of southern soul of this era. Malaco songstress Dorothy Moore participates as backing vocalist.
