1984年結成、100作以上を送り出してきたニュージャージーのハウス重要ユニットが残した代表作が正規復刻。
Blazeによるアルバム「Basic Blaze」は、彼らのディスコグラフィの中でも特に評価の高い作品。ヴォーカル・ハウスを軸に、ソウルやゴスペルの要素を取り入れたスタイルで知られるBlazeの持ち味が、全8曲に凝縮されている。
Kevin HedgeとJosh Milanによって構成されるこのユニットは、80年代から活動を続け、数多くのプロダクションでハウス・シーンに影響を与えてきた存在。本作でも、温かみのあるコード進行とソウルフルなヴォーカル、しなやかなリズムが組み合わさり、流れるようなグルーヴを生み出している。
アルバム全体は、クラシックなハウスのフォーマットを保ちながら、メロディと歌を前面に押し出した構成。リスニングにもフロアにも対応するバランスで、Blazeの魅力が分かりやすく表れた内容となっている。
長く入手が難しかった作品が、Defected RecordsとSlip N Slide Recordsによって復刻されたヴァイナル。ハウスの基礎を形作ったサウンドを確認できる一枚。

Seminal New Jersey producers, Blaze are recognised as one of the greatest production outfits in House Music. Formed in 1984 and with over 100 releases to their name, undoubtedly one of the highlights of their rich and expansive discography is their 1997 LP, Basic Blaze. Containing some of their best work to date across eight tracks, it’s an essential listen for any house music fan.
