Description
Chicago house veteran Boo Williams presents hard Chicago house, including an unreleased track dedicated to Alan Oldham, aka DJ T-1000.
Boo Williams is an essential producer of 90s Chicago house, having delivered numerous masterpieces on Cajmere-run Relief Records. This album, “Mashup,” consists of recordings he produced but had kept unreleased for years, unearthed from DAT tapes.
Side A’s “MASHUP” is a track that encapsulates “BOO of that era” as it is, intertwining the tight drums and cold synths characteristic of the mid-90s. The stripped-back beat, repetitive riffs, and gradually heating-up arrangement share the same hard-edged texture as the works he released on Relief at the time.
Side B features “A TRIBUTE TO T-1000,” a track produced as an homage to techno/house figure T-1000=Alan Oldham, shifting toward a more techy, sharp sound. It is aggressive Chicago tech house where dry kicks and tense synth lines take center stage.
It also includes two dub versions by Chicago heavyweight Ricardo Miranda. While preserving the structure of the original, they are reconstructed into deeper, more immersive grooves. The restrained, minimalist development makes them ideal for extended mixes.
The raw energy of Chicago house, the unpolished beats straight from the Relief lineage, and the techno-leaning tension. This vinyl condenses all three. A direct hit for DJs seeking the reality of 90s Chicago.
