Description
The popular 2013 release from Detroit-born Rod Modell's dub techno project Deepchord, issued by the popular UK label Soma Quality Recordings, is back! Immersive deep-sea dub house featuring glass-like, delicate synth sounds and pleasant basslines that create a dubby groove. (MIYUU)
This Deepchord release consists of two vinyl tracks that further deepen his distinctive style. First, "Prana" features delicate pads floating through space, eventually giving way to a pleasant, deep house-leaning beat. Tribal percussion intertwines as staccato synth patterns faintly emerge. While exuding a techno atmosphere, the track evolves while maintaining his unique identity. The skillful use of reverb and effects creates an impressive, rich, and organic sound.
The following track, "Tantra," reveals a tougher side compared to its predecessor. Heavy, edgy synths are layered to build depth, while FX-drenched percussion forms the core of the groove. A signature Deepchord dub-style bassline supports the track, and its beautifully constructed arrangement evolves so naturally that it almost goes unnoticed. A deep, emotional flow makes "Tantra" a truly special track.
Unconstrained by genre, this release showcases a unique musical approach, and Deepchord's signature sophisticated sound design is sure to captivate listeners.
A. Prana
AA. Tantra
Prana glistens into existence as ethereal pads drift by, giving way to a subtle, almost deep house beat that pulses nicely, backed by tribal-esq percussion. A gently staccato synth pattern flutters in and out toying with the idea of techno ever so slightly yet keeping well within the realms of his usual sound. Simplicity is the key in this track and Deepchord allows it to evolve slowly and he toys with sweeps of reverb and FX giving the track a lush, organic sound.
Tantra gives off a tougher vibe than it predecessor. Gently layered, deeper, edgier synths open the track as percussive elements, swathed in FX form the basis of the groove. Bolstered by a typical Deepchord dubbed out bass line this track once again evolves perfectly almost without the listener noticing the subtle changes that give Tantra a deep and emotive flow.
Never one to sit still and be pigeon holed into a genre, Deepchord easily turns his hand once again a brings two beautifully crafted tracks in his own inimitable style
