デトロイト・ハウスの第一世代であり、伝説のDJであるKen Collierの弟子としても知られるMixmode Recordingsのボス、Delano Smith。Derrick MayやJeff Millsらにも多大な影響を与えたこのレジェンドが、NTSの人気番組「Underground & Black」のホストも務める現代の先駆者、Ash Laurynとタッグを組んだ。
オールドスクールとニュースクールが融合したタイトル曲「Detroit Deep」は、妖艶でスモーキーな仕上がりだ。クラシックなドラムとダスティなコードが転がる不穏でレイトナイトな雰囲気の中、Ash Laurynによる親密な囁きのスポークン・ワードのヴォーカルがマイク越しに響き渡る。さらに、アトランタの重鎮でありNDATLを主宰するKai Alcéがリミックスを担当。彼ならではの独特なバウンスとスウィング感を注入し、より明るいコードワークが際立つトラックへと昇華させている。

Old school and new school collide here as Mixmode Recordings boss and longtime deep house servant Delano Smith joins contemporary trailblazer Ash Lauryn on a seductive and smoky new single. Lauryn contributes a spoken word vocal that has her whispering into the mic with alluring late night intimacy as classic drums roll beneath dusty chords. Atlanta mainstay Kai Alce then brings his signature bounce and swing to a remix that has brighter chord work. On the flip is the meditative 'Let The Rhythm' with its swirling chords and subtle Detroit touches with another entrancing and conscious spoken word from Lauryn finishing it with style.
