K. Handによる「Acid Nation」は、1995年にLoriz SoundからAcacia Recordsとの共同で発表された、USテクノ／ハウスの核となる一枚。デトロイトを拠点に活動し、男性中心だったシーンの中で存在感を確立したKelli Handは、DJとプロデューサー両面で評価を受けた人物。その力量がはっきり表れているのが本作だ。
ざらついたアシッドラインと力強いビートが前面に出たサウンドは、シンプルながら圧のあるグルーヴを生む。無駄を削ぎ落とした構成とマシンライクな反復が、当時のアメリカン・アンダーグラウンドの空気をそのまま伝える。派手さよりも機能性と推進力を重視した作りで、フロアをじわじわと引き込むタイプのトラックが並ぶ。
Time To Impactからの本盤はリマスター仕様。オリジナルの持つ粗さやエネルギーを損なわずに、各音の輪郭を整えた仕上がりで、この作品が持つ普遍的なアシッドの魅力をそのまま提示している。USテクノ／ハウスの基礎を押さえる上でも外せない一枚。
