Description
Nick Drake's meditative folk meets Clube da Esquina!
Following the likes of BaianaSystem and Ana Frango Elétrico, Rio de Janeiro's next big newcomer, Nicolas Geraldes, releases his debut album!
■ Nicolas Geraldes is a 25-year-old singer-songwriter from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He grew up immersed in music and formed his first band, Ente, at age 18, where he played bass. However, in 2022, Nicolas left the band and decided to focus on his solo career. This work, Em Outro Lugar do Céu (2024), is his landmark debut solo album.
■ His music is characterized above all by its strong influence from Minas music, particularly Clube da Esquina, which flourished in the 1970s and 80s (meaning "Street Corner Club" and referring to the Minas-based musical family centered around Milton Nascimento). More so than Milton Nascimento himself, he is heavily influenced by artists with a stronger rock edge, such as Lô Borges, Beto Guedes, and Flávio Venturini. An ecstatic, hymn-like voice, characteristic Minas romanticism, sparkling guitar tones, and lyrical melodies... Every song is filled with longing and love for Clube da Esquina. At the same time, he draws inspiration from George Harrison and Nick Drake, whom he deeply admires, as well as the universally beloved indie hero Mac DeMarco and the majestic natural beauty of Rio de Janeiro.
■ The participating musicians are equally impressive, featuring a star-studded lineup of figures who have supported the contemporary Brazilian music scene and worked on projects by Ana Frango Elétrico, BaianaSystem, and others, including Guilherme Lillo (Gt./Producer), Sérgio Machado (Dr.), Alberto Continenzino (Ba.), and Dra. Morelenbaum (Vo.). This lineup is almost unprecedented for a debut album and serves as a testament to the many musicians who have praised his extraordinary talent.
■ A masterpiece recommended to fans of 1970s and 80s Brazilian music, recent Brazilian alternative rock acts such as Tim Bernardes and Leonardo Marques, timeless singer-songwriters like George Harrison and Nick Drake, and indie rock alike!
