『Junun』で高い評価を獲得したJonny Greenwood、Shye Ben Tzur、The Rajasthan Expressによる共同プロジェクトが、新たな作品『Ranjha』を完成させた。前作がインド・ラージャスターン州の15世紀築のMehrangarh Fort内に設けられた即席スタジオで録音されたのに対し、本作はイギリス・オックスフォードにあるJonny Greenwoodのスタジオで制作されている。

Radioheadのギタリストとして知られるJonny Greenwoodは、映画音楽や現代音楽の分野でも数々の評価を受ける作曲家。一方、イスラエル出身のShye Ben Tzurはスーフィー音楽とインド古典音楽を融合した独自の活動で知られ、The Rajasthan Expressの力強いブラスや伝統楽器との共演によって唯一無二の世界観を築き上げてきた。

収録された11曲では、インド伝統音楽、スーフィー音楽、西洋的なアレンジ、エレクトロニック・ミュージックの感覚が自然に交差し、幻想的なコーラスや躍動するパーカッション、豊かなホーン・アンサンブルが立体的なサウンドスケープを描き出す。文化や国境を越えたコラボレーションならではの奥行きと没入感が全編を貫いている。

本作はレッド＆コーラル・スプラッター仕様のゲートフォールド・スリーヴでリリース。現代的な感覚と伝統音楽への深い敬意が共存する、ワールド・ミュージック、エクスペリメンタル、オルタナティヴ・ロックのリスナーまで幅広く推薦したい一枚。

Ranjha is the new album and collaboration between award-winning composer and Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood, celebrated composer/musician Shye Ben Tzur, and the Indian ensemble The Rajasthan Express. The upcoming album is a follow-up to their acclaimed debut Junun, which just celebrated its 10th anniversary.

While Junun was recorded in a makeshift studio within the 15th-century Mehrangarh Fort in Rajasthan, India, Ranjha was created in a more intimate setting—Jonny Greenwood’s studio in Oxford, England.

To the 10th anniversary of Junun, which received widespread critical acclaim—including Album of the Year honours from The Sunday Times, who called it “one of the most inspired releases of the year” and “intriguing, sinuous, and essential listening”— BMG released a special reissue of the original album on 16th January 2026.

The making of Junun was also documented by acclaimed filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson, offering an intimate look at the creative process and vibrant daily life during the album’s production.

Ranjha, set for release on 8th May 2026 will be available in on special Red & Coral Splatter vinyl in Gatefold Sleeve. The album features 11 brand-new tracks, blending the group’s signature cross-cultural sound with a contemporary edge. It arrives on the heels of the highly praised Radiohead tour which concluded in late 2025.
