Description
Four excellent contemporary house tracks connecting Detroit, Chicago, and California!
This four-track 12-inch is the landmark debut release from the new label Sun & Sound Detroit. Bringing together representative producers/artists from Chicago, California, and Detroit—Glenn Underground, Coflo & sillygirlcarmen, Jon Dixon, and Kevin Reynolds—it delivers a selection centered on deep house while spanning jazz, soul, and electronic music. More than just a compilation, it is a record where each artist's musical roots intersect.
A1 "Dive (Into The Deep)" is a jazz-house track in Glenn Underground's signature style. Over a deep, laid-back four-on-the-floor beat, synth chords, intricate arpeggios, a disco-inspired bassline, and 80s electro-style high-end synths naturally blend the improvisational spirit of jazz with the groove of Chicago house. On A2 "Never Forget (That Feelin')", Coflo & sillygirlcarmen combine a bouncing house beat and percussion with jazz-piano melodies and soulful female vocals.
B1 "Saturday At Northland" is a track by Detroit's Jon Dixon. True to his background in classical/jazz keyboard performance, the piano unfolds freely over dynamic percussion, evoking the intersection of Detroit techno and jazz. B2 "I Got Music" by Kevin Reynolds is a unique track that uses Kraftwerk-esque electronic synths and vocal phrases as rhythmic elements before gradually developing into jazz-inflected piano.
The tradition of Chicago house, Detroit jazz/techno, and California soul are condensed into a single 12-inch. Combining musical depth that invites close listening with functionality on the DJ floor, it is a high-quality showcase of contemporary house.
